Hi, I’m ______. I’m a volunteer working to elect a new president in 2020.
I promise, I won’t hit you up for money. Can I get two minutes of your time?
I’m working with a group called Five Friends. The biggest determinant in an election is voter turnout. The goal of Five Friends is to start now to get all Democrats and progressives to vote.
The way it works is pretty simple: Everybody gets five of their friends (or relatives, or neighbors, or co-workers to pledge to vote). You then also get one of them to do the same with their friends.
We are building a huge network of volunteers who simply make sure their friends are registered, encourage them to vote early or by mail, and then actually vote.
If we can get this started, and keep it going, we win the election in 2020.

Main points to hit when talking to people
- Introduce yourself: “Hi my name is ___________. I am a volunteer working to elect a new president.
- Explain the strategy: “I want to make sure you vote, and I want to invite you to join us in getting five of your friends to vote.”
- Give the voter materials for further action: “Here’s some information about Five Friends and how you can help, from home if you like, in as little as one hour per month.”
